There's quite a bit of controversy surrounding the bill for Michael Jackson's Memorial service.
The bill for providing the extra police for traffic and crowd control and other costs incurred is now in the hands of city of Los Angeles.
I think Michael Jackson was a musical genius who lived a very sad and lonely life. My heart breaks for his three children. I watched the memorial service on TV but I personally feel his estate should pay the bill.
How about you?
Who do you think should pay the 1.4 million dollar bill for Michael Jackson's memorial service?

I think I agree with you. It's a tough call. I know around here if someone influential passes away police and extra personnel are often needed to block streets and help traffic issues. Do we as tax payers do the over time on that? Sure do! I think that the estate should do it for Michael Jackson since it is the right thing to do.
I would probably agree with you and say that the estate should foot the bill. I would think that he made a lot of money this week with people downloading new music.
I agree with you any other family would have to pay for their own service. I was wondering who was paying for it. If not his estate then someone else in his family, it's not like Janet and Letoya are broke
I think his estate should pay for it. Tax payers already have it hard enough right now.
Tax payers sure get the short end of every stick. Of the relatively large amount of tax payers, few attended the service. And yet, is it really the family's fault that so many people attended? No. I don't know. Maybe 50-50?
I agree with you the estate should pay the expense.
I agree with the estate, though I doubt that will happen.

Shouldn't that have already been worked out? Interesting - I think the family pays for the police escorts in normal funerals don't they? I don't have first hand knowledge.
I think the estate should pay for the bill. I'm not a fan of tax payers footing the bill for things like that.
I have to agree. The estate should pay for it.
I thought that this sort of thing was already taken care of before the service!? Definitely his estate should pay for it!
The estate should pay. They chose to involve fans and the public in the memorial, which was wonderful, but when you open such things up to large numbers, police and crowd control are things that go along with it. They surely realized this when planning the event. It was a nice celebration of his life, and I enjoyed watching most of it, even though it was sad.
LA is asking for and getting donations to pay for it. I'm just glad it's not my problem.

well the family normally foots most of the bill but with the excitement that was generated the state generated money so maybe they should pay part
that is only my opinion
Either his estate or his family.
The family or even that entertainment company that put on the memorial. should def. pay for it! Why should CA citizens have to?
Family, estate, trust, whatever.
Whose idea was it to have the memorial? They should pay the bill!
I agree with Seeryus. His estate and/or family.
I think his estate or family should pay for it. They made the decision to make a big to do about it. If they would of done a small private funeral then they probally wouldn't of needed all the extras.
I agree that the estate or the family should take care of the costs. LA is already millions of dollars in debt. If they are doing the memorial for the fans to get to say goodbye, the estate (which has made tons of money off of the fans for years) should foot the bill. Otherwise, they should have had a smaller memorial service. It does not seem right to me for the taxpayers of LA to have to pay. (I am not from California, by the way).
It should come from the estate unless someone specifically asked for something then they should pay the cost.
Whose idea was it? That's who should pay the bill! The money would have done more good being donated to an organization dedicated to protecting children from pedophiles!
I agree. Either the estate or the family should pay for the costs. I didn't agree with MJ's lifestyle but I sure did love his music.
