Aloha Friday

I suppose our home is large since there are only two of us. Even though there is a lot of cupboards and closets for storage, I accumulate a lot of clutter. I'm not a pack rat as I was many years ago however, stuff still seems to pile up.
Our home is on a street where we get early morning elementary school traffic. I have found that if I put things on the sidewalk with a "FREE" sign, it all disappears within minutes. This is good for us and good for whoever takes it.

We did quite a bit of rearranging of the upstairs bedrooms this week and every morning we lined the sidewalk like in the above photo.

It was quite refreshing and did wonders for the clutter!

How do you stay on top of the clutter in your home?

Kailani at An Island Life is the host of the delightful "Aloha Friday" meme. In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day everyone takes it easy and looks forward to the weekend. Let's take it easy on posting Fridays too. Simple questions. Nothing heavy or too thought-provoking. It's fun, it's easy and it's a good way to get to know each other. I'm pretty new to your site and had to comment on this cute idea of yours...

This is so practical...I may just have to give it a try. My hubby took 6 bags to Discovery Shop just today. I'm trying to declutter too!

*cough* I'm a horrible clutter-keeper. I can't throw anything away!

I'm working on it.
I used to invite someone over for dinner and that would make me clean up. LOL!
We just moved out of our house so I had a huge yard sale and didn't take anything back in the house.

I try to curb clutter by saying to myself before I buy something. Is this going to end up as clutter? Will I really use this? I end up putting 90% of stuff back on the store shelves that way.

I tend to throw things out and then wonder why later. *lol*

We have at least one garage sale every year, and I also donate things to Goodwill and use Freecycle to get rid of things that others could maybe use. Other than that - we pretty much just stay overrun with clutter... :)

Fantastic idea! I am sure the passersby were delighted to find the treasures on your sidewalk.

I used to be so on top of clutter and stuff...it has built up lately. I need to have a few weeks home (summer vacation) to just get back on top of my stuff!!!

I just love that idea. If I had come by I would have taken the hangers. The truth is that I have a lot of trouble keeping up with the clutter. In our house, things usually break or get worn out. So, every once in a while, I give the kids huge garbage sacks and have them throw out all of the old stuff or things that they really don't walk. Also, moving helps. That's when I refuse to box up and move clutter.

Sort, sort, throw or recycle...and by recycle I mean reuse in a new way. Old shirts become new dust rags, etc...

I have to say I am not too great at getting rid of things. I do have a box that I periodically add things to that will go to Goodwill.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I don't stay on top of the clutter. I really need to go through some boxes and piles of stuff and start soon. I told Am Vets that I would have some stuff for them next Friday so I better get working on that LOL

That's a nice and interesting way of giving out things.

I usually give things I don't need anymore to people who work for us like the maid, gardener or maintenance people working for the village.

I throw the rest of the things that cannot be used anymore.

i just throw or give a lot of stuff away and try not to collect things in the first place.

this comes from having parents who have spent hours going through what was left after their parents passed on. i don't want to leave that for my kids. and after all... it's just "stuff."
