Provident Living - Honey & Yeast

Honey & Yeast

Honey is a natural sweetener that can be used for so many things. My grandchildren love it on pancakes and my children grew up on peanut butter and honey sandwiches.

I have always bought my honey in 1 gallon plastic jars. This will be approximately 12 pounds. We buy our honey by the gallon from a local beekeeper. The lighter the honey the faster it will crystallize. When baking bread I prefer honey that is a bit crystallized because it's so easy to scoop. Honey can be put back in liquid form by simply placing the container in a pan of water and simmering on a low heat. There's nothing like a thick slice of bread right out of the oven slathered in butter and honey.

I have also always bought my yeast in bulk form. Red Star is the brand I prefer and it is usually sold at the warehouse stores. I keep my yeast in the refrigerator.

Provident: 1. having or showing foresight; providing carefully for the future. 2. characterized by or proceeding from foresight: provident care. 3. economical; frugal; thrifty.

Emergency Preparedness is not only helpful after a hurricane, fire, tornado or earthquake. An illness, loss of a job, or even instability in the national economy are all good reason to be prepared.
